Happy 2014!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! I hope you all had a wonderful NYE and I know 2014 will be an awesome year :D

The past week has been a great week for me to end 2013 with. Last Friday I had lunch with Jinwon at President Thai, which is a place I've been wanting to check out for a while now. Then we went to AMC and watched Frozen. OMG I *love* that movie! I will admit I teared up several times watching it... so good! Definitely recommend for all :) Then we ended our Friday Funday with cupcakes from ConfeXion. Yum! Nancy came by on Saturday for one last afternoon together before she had to leave. We met up with Crystal and walked down memory lane at AHS before going to ConfeXion for more yummies. We then consumed said yummies with wine at Everson Royce before making a quick stop at Intelligentsia Coffee and seeing Candace. After that we just hung out at my house until we had to part ways with Crystal. Nancy and I had dinner at Sinbala before I dropped her off at LAX. Miss you dearie! On Sunday I ran errands with my mum after church and on Monday I helped her take down Christmas decorations at work. We had lunch at Bhanu Indian Grocery & Cuisine before I took my car to Longo for its oil change and maintenance. Yesterday my mum and I cleaned up the house for the new year and in the evening Gardy and Keri came over. We made delicious Gooey Butter Cake and ushered in the new year with much chatting and laughter. I didn't get very much sleep, but it was a great NYE and start to 2014!

Happy Christmas!

It's Christmas y'all! I hope you guys are having a wonderful day spent with loved ones and delicious food :) It was a beautiful day in SoCal and my mum is making me babyback ribs tonight yay :D

So this past week has been quite hectic! Packed all day Thursday and on Friday I had to prepare food for two different potlucks. I started off with Sansa's favourite Lemon Cakes for my Game of Thrones potluck and then made Avocado Devilled Eggs for my "church" potluck that evening. There was no real theme but we did have a theme ingredient: garlic! Thank goodness my devilled egg recipe called for garlic powder ;) The potluck was a lot of fun and involved a lot of yummy dishes. We had pita bread with garlic dip, kale salad, roasted cauliflower, spicy "ddukbokgi" pasta, creamy garlic pasta, brownies, candy, and s'mores pretzels. And it was so good to hang out with these ladies since I hadn't seen a couple of them since our potluck last year! :P

On Saturday I went over to P.Dan and Judy's place in the morning to hang out with them and we ended up making gingerbread houses with the kids. It was so much fun! Then it was time to evacuate our house for the fumigation, so my mum and I went and grabbed In-N-Out for lunch. Later in the afternoon we checked into Extended Stay America. In the evening Crystal picked me up and we went to Abby's apartment for our Game of Thrones potluck! She shares a lovely apartment with her flatmate and had such a beautiful table setting laid out for us. Thanks Abby! The potluck was great. Every region except for Dorne was represented. From The Wall, we had Salad at Castle Black, Crusty White Bread, Rack of Lamb (actually babyback ribs here), Mulled Wine, and Applecakes. From the North we had Buttered Beets, while from the South we had Leek Soup and Trout Wrapped in Bacon. Tyroshi Honeyfingers came from Across the Narrow Sea and King's Landing brought us my Lemon Cakes. The food was delicious and the company was joyful. All in all a very successful potluck!

On Sunday we checked out of Extended Stay America, ran some errands, and then headed up to Solvang. We stopped in Oxnard on the way for a late breakfast at McDonald's. And then we were finally in Solvang! What a cute town. We checked out Elverhoj Museum, The Mole Hole (bought my mum's Christmas gift here), the Hans Christian Andersen Museum, the SYV Hardware and Garden Center (which is actually now just Ace Hardware), Solvang Antiques, and the Visitors Bureau. Then it was getting pretty hot so we changed into short sleeves and headed to lunch at Paula's Pancake House. Afterwards we checked out Old Mission Santa Ines, Pebble People, and the famous windmill before getting aebleskivers at Solvang Restaurant. Having now seen pretty much everything in Solvang we wanted to, we checked into Viking Motel for the night. And since there are no good dinner options in Solvang, we opted to stay in and order Domino's. Love their pizza with garlic sauce! ;)

{Don't I look like I totally belong in this quaint Danish town?}

On Monday we checked out and headed to Olsen's Danish Village Bakery & Coffee Shop for breakfast. My mum got coffee, I got milk, and we shared their apple danish and cheese danish. Yum! Drove around town one last time and then headed to Butterfly Beach to enjoy the ocean. Beautiful! Then we came back home to find the fumigation over and our house liveable again, free of termites, yay! It was a lot of work cleaning up the house and bringing back all the food items that we had put away, but we did it. AND we even managed a trip to Costco to buy babyback ribs (for tonight's dinner). Go us! Yesterday I got to hang out with Joyce and Richard for a little while and spent the rest of the day finishing up the work from Monday as well as finally watching some of my TV shows. Today has been full of yummy food and I can't wait for dinner tonight. Happy Christmas everyone! :)

Busy Hostess

Man this month has just been busy busy busy! There has been no time to just stop and breathe...

So three Fridays ago, I met up with Grace Yang for the first time in months to have lunch. Of course it was raining... but that didn't stop us! We had a really nice lunch at Lemonade, Grace's treat. In the evening I met up with Jinwon and we went to Williana's house since she was back in town for Thanksgiving. We had a Thanksgiving-leftovers dinner and got to chat which was nice. On Saturday my mum and I went back to Rose Bowl Loop Track and then ran errands for most of the day. I had started to feel sick on Friday night and unfortunately woke up on Sunday with a full-blown cold. Ugh, what a way to start off December. To make things worse, our church had just merged with Mosaic and it was quite an upsetting service for some of us :/ But that didn't stop me from going out at night to see Selina shake some serious booty at her KPOP dance showcase! I met up with Carol and her daughter Lyzeth and we completely enjoyed the performance. Yay Selina!

{Group photo after Selina's KPOP dance showcase}

On Monday I helped my mum out at work and she rewarded me with a delicious lunch at IKEA. On Tuesday it was back to helping her out at work and I also managed to watch some TV too. Wednesday and Thursday were pretty quiet, and Friday was really exciting because Andy Oppa came to see us! He had flown in from Korea on Wednesday but had business meetings constantly in Irvine until Friday afternoon. He made it up here in time for dinner so we had a nice dinner together :) I had been so excited to go out with him on Saturday, but of course it poured rain -_- So we spent the day watching movies... I got to finally watch the first Hunger Games and then we watched a Korean movie called Spy. We also got to talk a lot, which was really nice. I miss my cousin! On Sunday I went back to church and then hung out at Lindsey's apartment afterwards getting to meet some of the new Mosaic people. I'm still a bit wary of all the changes, but at least the people I've met so far are really nice. In the evening I went to LAX to pick up Crystal and brought her home with me ;) We went to Rose Bowl Loop Track on Monday morning, ate lunch at home, and then headed over to Burbank in the afternoon to see a taping of Conan! Before we went to the taping we walked around the lot for a bit and I got to see some former coworkers which was really nice. And the taping was really fun! The guests were Snoop Dogg and Mike Birbiglia, and Snoop Dogg performed at the end as Snoopzilla (his "funk" name). AND we got to see George Takei even though he was the guest for Wednesday's show since he only had time on Monday to film it. Such a fun show!

{Can you spot me? :P}

On Tuesday Crystal and I walked around Arcadia instead of going to the Rose Bowl. It was quite a good walk! Then we parted ways while I went to help my mum out at work for a few hours; we met up again in the evening and went to The Oinkster for dinner. Then I dropped Crystal off at Susina to meet up with a friend and I hung out at the Starbucks next door. Later Crystal and I went to MILK and shared their Thai Tea macaron ice cream sandwich. Yum! On Wednesday we power-walked around the mall for exercise (it's 1.5 miles) and then shopped for a little bit. Then in the afternoon I dropped Crystal off at LAX. Miss you luvvie!

Guess who went back to LAX on Thursday? ME! To pick up Nancy dear. We went to Coni'Seafood for lunch and it was delicious! Shrimp in butter and garlic... so good. Then we went to the 85C Bakery in Hacienda Heights for some pastries and sea salt coffee. And since a Daiso Japan opened up in the same plaza, of course we went there afterwards. Then we went home and watched Elementary... live... on my TV. It has been so long since I last did that... I think it's been YEARS. Crazy! On Friday I did leg lifts at home, per my cousin's recommendation, since Nancy didn't want to go to the Rose Bowl. We went to Taqueria Los Anaya for lunch and had some delicious flautas before going to Getty Villa. After enjoying the beauty of the villa, we went and enjoyed the beauty of Sunset Beach. Nature is amazing. Nature's creator God is amazing. It was so refreshing to be standing there at the beach in awe of God and his creation. Afterwards we went to Getty Center. Since we got there a little before closing, we just walked around taking pictures for a bit before leaving. Good thing parking was free! (We got a parking voucher from Getty Villa before we left.) Then we battled traffic for almost two hours to get to Tacos Baja Ensenada. Thank goodness I love their scrumptious shrimp burrito or else I would have been really pissed. After dinner we met up with Crystal at Tasty to Go and shared a green tea snowy. Then we met up with Adalon and headed to 1886 for drinks to end the night on.

On Saturday I did some more leg lifts before Nancy and I hit ktown. We went to Kim's Home Center and Koreatown Galleria before going to Hae Jang Chon for lunch. Then we stopped by Koreatown Plaza before heading to Alhambra for the evening. Since we overate at lunch, we skipped dinner and just went to dessert. We tried the Brown Sugar Snowy at Pa Pa Walks and enjoyed it. Then we headed to Gallery Nucleus for the opening reception of Out of the Shire: A Tribute Exhibition to Middle Earth. It was so cool to see all of the fanart, and Gentle Giant had a Sauron that we could take pictures with. There was also a caricature artist, Angelo from Toon Upz, who would draw you as an Orc, Elf, or Hobbit (of course I chose elf). Despite the long line for the caricature artist, overall I had a lot of fun at the reception. Afterwards we checked out the Sonic Drive-In in Duarte before heading home and doing a video chat with Joyce.

On Sunday Nancy slept in while I went to church. Afterwards I drove to Angel City Brewery to meet up with Dena, John, and their friends for Dena's beer yoga birthday party! There were a lot of yummies from Costco, Porto's, and the Pie Hole, and I even got a complimentary beer from the brewery. Good times :) I drove back home to pick up Nancy and took her to Tacos La Bufadora for (her) lunch. They have $1 fish tacos on Sundays so she helped herself to six of them ;) Then we went to the mall and watched The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug in 3D. Loved all the attention that Kili (Aidan Turner) got (even if I didn't approve of all the plot choices), loved how ridiculously awesome Legolas (Orlando Bloom) was, greatly enjoyed how ridiculously fabulous Thranduil (Lee Pace) was, surprisingly really liked the completely new character of Tauriel (Evangeline Lilly), and of course got lost in the wonderful voice of Smaug (Benedict Cumberbatch). What I absolutely hated (of course) was the scene with the giant spiders. NIGHTMARE COME TRUE. Not sure if I can handle watching this movie again... Anyway, afterwards we went to El Taco Taco to grab some carnitas nachos and then we raced back home to eat them while watching Psych the Musical. It was such a fun episode to watch :)

{Happy (Early) Birthday Dena!}

Nancy's parents picked her up on Monday, so then I went and ran errands with my mum. Gardy came over after work and we got to catch up a bit. We're fumigating our house this weekend, so I spent all day yesterday trying to pack up food items and doing some general organising. My room/life has fallen apart since I've been so busy with guests! And then in the evening I met up with Laura and we went to the Yelp Elite holiday party in Pasadena. It was an "ugly sweater" party and Laura provided me with such an ugly sweater :P It was a lot of fun and we ended the night with some Half and Half. Today I ran some more errands and did some more packing. I feel so overwhelmed--I have a potluck on Friday at my house, then we have to exit the house Saturday morning so it can get fumigated, and yet I have a potluck on Saturday evening to attend. So much to do, wish me luck!

{We are awesome.}

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hope everyone is planning (or at least going to) a delicious feast tonight! I will be making my traditional Thanksgiving broccoli cheese casserole, as well as Costco mashed potatoes to go with our Costco rotisserie chicken for dinner. Yum!

So last Thursday, it ended up only raining in the morning, so I guess there wasn't very much sky poison to deal with :P I stayed at home for most of the day anyway, but left in the evening to go to bible study. Only to find out after I had driven 45 minutes in traffic and searched for parking for 10 minutes that it had been cancelled. Le sigh. There went almost two hours of my life -_- On Friday I finished reading Virginia Woolf's To the Lighthouse. It was painful and I will never read Virginia Woolf ever again. Ran errands on Saturday and then made my broccoli cheese casserole for our Thanksgiving potluck! For our entrees we had my broccoli cheese casserole, Christina Fong's roasted brussel sprouts, Michael's spicy turkey and potato stew and pickled carrots, Derek's chicken/rice/plantains/beans from Versailles, CHRON's duck/fried rice from Daikokuya, and Jamie's turkey meatballs with gravy. For beverages, Derek provided beer and Vanessa/Jamal provided wine. And our desserts were Vano's spice cupcakes and Tiffany's croissant bread pudding. What a delicious potluck!

{Normal group pic + "Drake Hands" (have you seen that video? :P)}

Then on Sunday I did the We Run The City UCLA vs. USC 5K. Picked up Christina, Ron, and Judy in the morning and drove into enemy territory so we could be proud Bruins. Unfortunately USC won the race, but it was still a really good run. I actually jogged the entire first mile, and then some more later! This got me my fastest 5K time ever: 42:42! Of course, I'm still sore now as a result of this, so I'm definitely paying the price for pushing myself so much. Afterwards we rewarded ourselves with an early lunch at Urth Caffe. Christina bought us pumpkin cheesecake to share, which was delicious, and Urth was also giving out free samples of their pumpkin pie. Afterwards I dropped them off at the metro station and went to YNCC for service. Discovered that Williana was back so we hung out in Little Tokyo afterwards. We walked through Japanese Village Plaza, got drinks from Ozero, and shopped at Marukai before parting ways. Good times :)

On Monday my mum and I went to ktown so I could see a different acupuncturist. Ran some errands before going to the Americana to check out their new Din Tai Fung! Yeah... that was a mistake. No bueno. We walked around afterwards before heading back to ktown to pick up my freshly made stinky herbal medicine. Lovely. On Tuesday I helped out with my mum at her work and then met up with Selina in the evening to see JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE at the Staples Center! It was his first stop on the west coast for his 20/20 Experience World Tour and it was AMAZING. The night was perfect--started off eating my mum's California Rolls, followed by delicious fried chicken from LudoBird, and then it was time for the concert! He really put so much thought into every aspect of the concert and it was brilliant. The staging, the background, the instruments, the dancers, and JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE HIMSELF... SO. GOOD. I've always liked JT, ever since his N'Sync days, but I never truly respected him until now. Yesterday I went to Costco to get their delicious rotisserie chicken and mashed potatoes, and today we will be eating those--and my broccoli cheese casserole--for Thanksgiving dinner! I took my mum to the Rose Bowl Loop Track for the first time this morning and we walked the entire 3.3 miles, so I am ready to pig out guilt-free tonight! ;)

Sky Poison

Have you guys seen this Buzzfeed article: 30 Things You’re Only Afraid Of If You Live In Los Angeles? While I don't agree with everything, a lot of them are true. I find #5 particularly relevant today, as we have SKY POISON falling upon us today, making traffic unbearable. Thank goodness I can just stay at home today :P

So last Tuesday... after helping my mum out at work for a couple hours, I met up with Christina (for the fourth day in a row!) along with Jennifer and Patrick to go to a Yelp Elite event at Lexington Social House. It was a fun event; I had a couple drinks, got to eat ice cream made with liquid nitrogen, and made a new Elite friend! On Wednesday I ran errands with my mum and ate delicious Panda Express for lunch. In the evening I met up with Gardy and Keri to celebrate Gardy's birthday. We took her to dinner at Guelaguetza Restaurant, which I had been wanting to check out for a while. I helped my mum out at her work again on Thursday and then I went to LAX to pick up Crystal K for her impromptu LA trip! YAY for her visiting me :D We went to Toe Bang afterwards since we had been craving their corn cheese :P Then Friday was our Burbank Funday! It started off at Cost Plus World Market, which has now become my favourite store. They have everything! Then we went to Olive & Thyme for lunch since I was meeting Janice there for our book club lunch meeting. We saw Simon Helberg there as well as this other male actor (who I cannot place). Cool :) Then we tried to burn some calories at Burbank Empire Center before going to Porto's and buying yummy carbs! I tried their mango empenada for the first time... it was just okay. Then we ended our day at Taza.

{Crystal and I at Taza}

Sadly Crystal had to leave on Saturday, so I dropped her off at the Burbank Airport. It was so good to see you Crystal; visit again soon!!! In the evening I met up with Jinwon and we went to go see For the Record: Baz Luhrmann again. Love that show! On Sunday I met up with my mum after church and we went to ktown. Finally got to have lunch at Young King and it was so good :) Then we went shopping at Koreatown Plaza since they were having a sale before heading home. Monday was a quiet day at home, watching TV and catching up on pictures, and on Tuesday I was back at my mum's work helping out. After work I met up with Crystal W and we went to the final Yelp's Passport to Glendale event. Afterwards we stopped by The Famous for drinks and then got delicious food at In-N-Out.

Yesterday I went to ktown with my mum to see an acupuncturist for all my health issues. I got acupuncture done and then was given a bagload of different herbal medicines to take. Lovely. Let's hope they work...
