Finally

I'm finally blogging! I know, you're jumping for joy ^^ I apologise for the lack of blogging--I've been quite busy and running all over the place. I actually still am, but I decided that it was high time for a blogging. So I will be giving you the highlights of my past couple weeks, and hopefully they will be of interest to you! Sorry if it gets to be a bit lengthy..

memorable dates
tuesday, april 10th
P.Dan and his family came to visit me! It was great--we went to Enzo's for lunch, and I gave them a short tour of the campus. Annabel is too cute!! She was waving hi to everyone ^^ I have a few pictures from that day that Judy took, and I will post them on Facebook soon (as you guys should have realized by now, I'm back on FB.)
Later was the EAP orientation for Korea. It was a bit scary since there were all these awkward pauses, but I do love talking about Korea, so it was all gravy. And afterwards I met up with Ming for dinner, which he kindly cooked for me, and I finally watched The Rock. It's actually a good movie! I liked it ^^
thursday, april 12th
I turned 22! A big THANK YOU! to everyone who called and contacted me wishing me a happy birthday--I really appreciate it *hug* Part of the day was pretty crappy, but I had lovely friends to make it up to me. Christina baked me a very yummy strawberry cake which my stomach and I loved, and Ariana treated me to dinner and dessert! And she gave me Bleach presents!!! Arigatou!
saturday, april 21st
I went to Borders and bought my first volume of Blade of the Immortal, volume 11! It was the only volume they had that was in Esther-worthy quality, so I got it with my 5% off coupon! I then went to the Borders on Lake Avenue to find The Children of Hurin, a newly released book by J.R.R. Tolkien (and completed by his son), and get 40% off that! I also got a free slice of cheesecake with my birthday coupon. Yay!

free food
friday the 13th I got treated to lunch at work since it was a coworker's last day. Then I got treated to a birthday dinner along with Vy by Ariana and Natasha at Tanino's, this delicious Italian restaurant on Westwood, and their food was amazing! I loved it ^^
saturday the 14th my mom treated me to the "perfect" meal, which I always thought of but never executed. We got a cheeseburger from In-N-Out, fries from McDonald's, and the crispy apple turnover from KFC. YUM! *^^* And for dinner, Joycie treated me to Mimi's Cafe, where I haven't been since I was little, and it was delicious!
sunday the 15th Jinwon treated me to a yummy lunch at the Macaroni Grill in Burbank! Yay!
wednesday the 25th D.K. treated me to In-N-Out, which was unexpected because he demanded that I treat him! But it was a welcome surprise, so thanks!

men i love
On Tuesday (17th), we had the EAP orientation for Cambridge! Although I do love talking about Cambridge, the highlight of the orientation was the fact that Gids was there! I loved seeing him, and listening to him talk--I could never get tired of him! I heart that man so much *^^* And later that night, Tasha and I went to see the sneak peek of Fracture, the new movie with Ryan Gosling and Anthony Hopkins. I'm a huge Ryan fan, and he was quite hot in that movie! The movie itself was pretty good too, as long as you're accepting of a creepy Hannibal-esque Hopkins.
And today, I finally had my first celebrity sighting!!! I was walking down Kinross with a couple classmates from Korean class (we were on our way to work on a project), when Scott Wolf comes walking down the street talking with some other person. I was in shock. Scott Wolf! Everyone had always asked if I saw a lot of celebrities, being located where I am, but unfortunately I always had to say no. I saw Luke Mably, and even got to hug him, but that was at a CEC event, and not a random sighting. But this was definitely random and totally unexpected, and I was so happy! I finally got to see a celebrity before I graduated ^^

esther the bartender
I finally registered for bartending class! I went on April 11th and paid my registration fee and signed the contract and everything! I will be taking bartending classes in June at the National Bartenders School in West L.A. You can find more information at their website. Anyone want to take the class with me? It's $400 for two weeks, but it's a really good program!

estherkimchi
As you guys probably noticed by now, estherkimchi.com no longer works. My hosting expired for that domain, so on the 16th of this month I purchased estherkimchi.ORG. It's not yet working yet, for some reason unknown to me, but hopefully it will be up and running soon.

limbo
I'm currently in the middle of a lot of academic "drama", which I hope will be resolved soon. My last quarter here at UCLA is turning out to be quite hectic! I will blog about all this at a later time, and please pray that it will be a happy blogging! Okay, that's it for now! Cheers!

Commencement

I just got a notice for commencement. Reading it and going through everything I need to go through, I am getting more and more stressed out. They have an effing checklist and timeline, and I feel like I am behind.

Here is the checklist:

Order your senior portrait
Order graduation invitations or announcements
Not doing either of these.

Order your cap and gown
Also not doing this. But I don't have a cap or a gown. Nevermind, I will buy the stupid cap and gown. But I will not buy the expensive satin sash.

Participate in the Senior Class Gift
Ha! I don't like you, UCLA, why would I give you even more money?!

Check your degree candidacy term on URSA
Participate in the 2007 Senior Survey
Did both. Yay! Something I can check off!

Apply for a Chancellor’s Service Award, to be student singer at College Commencement, to be student speaker at College Commencement
Now why would I want to do that?!

College Commencement Ceremony and Department Graduations--order tickets and guest tickets as well as guest parking passes
This is something I need to do. But can't until May 1st. Who wants to come to my graduation? You better be special, because it costs $8 to order extra tickets! Oh, and I'm doing the psychology one. Not the College one.

May: Commencement workshops
Hmmm.. maybe I should go to these.

Latin Honors--purchase honor braid
Okay, so this pisses me off. You have to have reached the minimum GPA by winter quarter to be listed on the commencement program! The minimum for cum laude (the lowest one ^^#) is 3.638. Since I didn't do as well as I hoped last quarter, my GPA is now 3.634. Which means that I will not be listed as graduating with latin honours, even if I manage to raise it 0.004 this quarter. I really hope I do, because it has been a goal of mine for a long time and I'm working really hard for it! But, assuming my petition goes through, I will definitely be able to buy a decorative honour braid for College Honours!

Department Graduation: Psychology
Saturday, June 16 at 8:00 AM
Yay! I can't wait for this day to come, when I will graduate and finally be free!

Solitary Exile

As you have probably experienced by now, I've been unusually hermit-like for the past couple weeks or so. More so than usual. I apologise for all my late replies on Facebook, and my really late or nonexistent calls back to those who call and/or leave messages on my mobile.

I really have no good reason why. Well, over spring break, I was at home.. which explains the lack of replies. I don't go on the computer or near my phone when I'm home. Especially this break, where I was uber busy with organising all my crap. Which is not yet done. And I found more boxes in the garage. Whoo hoo.

Anyway, there is more to this post than my apologising. I want to inform you all that I will actually be going into an even more hermit-like mode. I won't be going on AIM/MSN unless necessary, which means for school, which means it probably won't happen because I don't talk to my classmates. I will also be deactivating my Facebook. No, not cancelling.. just deactivating. I will come back to FB sooner or later. But starting from this Sunday, it will be deactivated.

And as you probably found out, I'm not answering my phone. Unless I'm expecting a call from you for some reason--perhaps we're meeting up later in the day--I will not be answering. If it's important and you want me to call you back, leave a voicemail message. Otherwise, I won't be calling back. Even then, I might end up emailing you instead.

Which brings me to another point. So how to contact me, you ask? You can't do it with instant messaging, you can't do it through Facebook, and you can't do it through my mobile. Well, there are two ways.

First, you can post messages to me here. I will still be blogging, even in my seclusion, so you can still see what's going on in my life and whatnot.

Second, you can email me. kimcheese at gmail dot com. It might take some time for me to reply, but reply I will. Eventually.

So that's it. I'm sincerely sorry that I've been such a crappy friend, and that I'm only acting worse, but this is just the way it has to be. I don't know if it's because it's my last quarter, and what a hectic quarter it is, or my new business, or just all the stress I'm under, but solitude is what I crave. And I'm tired of having to explain myself to everyone, and apologise over and over again, and have everyone wonder where I am and why I'm unresponsive.

So I hope you understand. And this doesn't mean that I don't want to hang out with you or talk to you! Just message me here or email me, and we'll figure out a time to meet up! I still love all of you, truly

Faith

I just dropped my G.E. class. Music 15. Goodbye.

I decided that I am going to put all my trust in God. With Him by my side, my petitions will most definitely be approved. Yes, I will get G.E. credit for my Art & Satire class from Cambridge. Yes, I will get Honours credit for my Magical Realism course from Cambridge. And yes, my Mass Media in Korea class from Yonsei will count for my last upper-div elective for my minor.

I know this is not the most "responsible" decision I have ever made. I know that I'm risking a lot. If the G.E. class doesn't go through, I'm not graduating. If the Honours or Korean petitions are denied, I either graduate without honours or the minor, or have to go to summer school. None of those consequences are enticing. I want to graduate, and with the major, the minor, and honours. I worked my arse off these past four years, and it wasn't to see everything go down the drain!

And yet, here I am. Not asking my professors for honours contracts. Not signing up for any back-up Asian classes. Dropping my G.E. class.

I trust you Lord. I trust that you will let me graduate with everything.

I know this is not how I usually operate, but I think that makes it even more special.

Dear Lord, please don't let me regret this.

Hectic

Today has been quite a hectic day.

First it started off with me waking up early. And not being able to eat a decent breakfast. Because I wanted to get to Honours by 8:15 so I could beat the line. So all I got to eat was a banana. And even then I was second in line! Hmmph. It's okay. A little bit later three more people came so it's good I went when I did.

So I got my 9 o'clock appointment with a counselor. And she said she couldn't waive either req because I "still have this quarter". Ugh. And if you're confused with this waiving this, people said that sometimes they waive one of your G.E. requirements if you're unable to complete it and you have to graduate. But apparently they won't do that for me. So she said to petition my EAP classes for both G.E. and Honours, since I took 3 of them at Cambridge. And since the board or whoever meets on Wednesday, I need to submit my petitions at the latest by tomorrow morning.

After that appointment, I headed over to the Asian Languages department to see that counselor. Submitted all my stuff, and she said I would hear back in a couple of weeks at the latest. She also said that I should enroll in an UD elective just in case, since Mass Media in Korea is more of a comm class than humanities, which is what they're looking for. Ugh. Why couldn't they have told me that in the first place?! TT_TT

So after Korean class, which thankfully ended early, I headed back to the apartment. Was lazy and just ate cereal for lunch, which really isn't that filling. Especially considering my "breakfast". Then headed over to Tokyopop. Filled out my paperwork, was introduced to some people, and then I was put to work. Today was a special day because they needed to send out a lot of packages today, so I had to help with that. It was pure labour. So now my back hurts a bit. Anyway, after that, I had to head home to Arcadia so I could get the Cambridge course stuff to petition tomorrow.

Oh my goodness.

I hate traffic.

It took me two hours to get home. Yes, two. I wanted to kill someone. And I was starving. So I went home and devoured my dinner. My mum was quite shocked at how I was just inhaling the food. Which I later paid the price for by getting a serious food coma and a tiny tummyache. Anyway, after tearing my garage apart, and finding that I had yet many more boxes of stuff to organise, I finally found my coursework! Showered, wasted some time at home rolling around on the bed because I was exhausted, and finally was forced to come back by my mum.

So here I am. Pooped out. And not looking forward to having to get up early yet again tomorrow for Honours. Argh. Let's just hope all my petitions go through, or else I'm either going to have a very sad graduation or none at all.

The Final Term

So I'm back at school. For what I'm hoping will be my final quarter ever here at UCLA. I think I will kill someone if I have to stay here any longer. It's bad enough that I can't graduate right now.

So tomorrow I'm going to wake up bright and early to go be the first person to get an appointment with the honours counselor so I can discuss graduation. I'm currently one class short G.E.-wise and honours-wise, and I'm hoping that they'll waive both requirements. Please pray that they do! I must also meet with my minor counselor, although I have no idea when I can do that, to petition the elective I took in Korea towards my minor so that I can graduate with it. Dear Lord, please let me graduate with not only my major, but with my minor and honours!!!

In some random news, apparently yesterday Nickelodeon's 2007 Kids' Choice Awards was held here at UCLA in Pauley Pavilion. Justin Timberlake, Orlando Bloom, Nicole Kidman, and more were all here, and Maroon 5 even performed their new single! And there was bungy jumping involved! Stuntman Ron Jones bungy jumped from a height of 225 feet (albeit, it was into a bucket of slime -_-).

And if you were wondering, I had a fabulous time with Joycie. She is a wonderful date. Viva Madrid!

Tomorrow is also going to be my first day working at Tokyopop. I hope it goes well..
