Upside Down

Wow. The past two weeks have been SO. EFFIN. CRAZY. My mum had a health crisis and it seriously turned my world upside down.

So the week of January 14th was pretty quiet in the beginning. Work was work. Highlight of the week was probably that I got to eat Domino's Pizza on Tuesday for lunch since a coworker decided to treat the team to it. Their pizza is pretty good! Had to come to work early on Wednesday to deal with furniture movers, stayed late on Thursday because I had a bunch of meetings, but up until Friday morning, nothing big. And then... Friday morning. Due to her being allergic to some medication she had taken the night before, my mum collapsed on our kitchen floor. It was the scariest experience of my life. I won't go into detail here (I did post about it on FB), but I basically spent the entire day crying. Thankfully Gardy was a true friend and came over at night with pizza to comfort me and force me to eat something since I had barely eaten the entire day. And while I failed at forcing my mum to go to the hospital on Friday, I managed to get her there on Saturday with Crystal's help. We took her to ER, and thank goodness we did because it turned out she had a small brain bleed from when she fell and hit her head on the kichen floor. They also treated her for dehydration and low potassium and she was admitted overnight for observation.

Knowing my mum would be in good hands, I left the hospital Saturday night and went home to meet up with Gardy. She brought me In-N-Out (the best comfort food!) and then we went to go see Cirque du Soleil's final IRIS performance at the Dolby Theatre. Went back to the hospital on Sunday morning as soon as visiting hours were open again. The doctor didn't come in until really late so my mum wasn't able to come home until 6:30PM. It was a long day, but the good news is that they said her brain bleed would resolve on its own (as long as she's careful) so we would just need to follow up with her regular doctor in about a week to get a CT scan. They also were worried about her heart (they did an EKG on her) and asked that we follow up with a cardiologist as well. Thank goodness I didn't have work last Monday (thanks to MLK Jr. Day) so I was able to stay at home and take care of my mum. Monday night she was able to eat actual food for the first time since Thursday night so that was a big success.

I went back to work on Tuesday (but called my mum constantly). I left work a little early so I could meet up with Natasha, who was in LA visiting with her brother. We hung out at Westfield Century City before heading to go see For the Record: Tarantino (my third time!). It was my first time sitting in premium seating, which was nice. Unfortunately there was no Von Smith or Ben Goldberg, but it was still a good performance. Our cast was Jason Paige, James Byous, Anderson Davis, Lisa Datz, Rogelio Davis Jr., Dionne Gipson, Ginifer King, Steve Mazurek, and Danielle Mone Truitt. Solid cast.

On Wednesday, I stopped by Glendale HK Market and then Gaon (a Korean restaurant in Pasadena) after work to get dinner for my mum. Ugh, no good. And on Friday I went to Yelper Laura S's house for Game Night! Had some pizza, some wine, some Apples to Apples, some Taboo... it was good times. And today the only thing I've done so far is take my car to the dealership for my 35K oil change. But I'm glad to report that my mum is slowly but surely recovering. She has a doctor's appointment scheduled on Monday so hopefully we will get some good news then :)

Congratulations!

JOYCE IS MARRIED!!!

I knew it would be a great weekend when my Friday morning started off with cheese rolls from Porto's, courtesy of one of my coworkers. I left work early so that I could get ready for the rehearsal with Nancy and then we headed over to the venue with Joyce so we could do some sound and lighting tests. We had a smooth rehearsal and went to Capital Seafood for the dinner. Yesterday, Nancy and I got mostly ready at my house before we went to the new 85C in West Covina. It's really nice and I might have gone overboard in buying pastries for the bridal party ;) We met up with the girls at Joyce's hotel room and her aunt was kind enough to do our hair for us! She is so pro :) Then the wedding craziness started, with the photographer and videographer coming to get Joyce looking gorgeous in her wedding dress.

Next came the First Look and then the wedding party pictures. It was so cold outside, but we had a lot of fun! And then the beautiful wedding ceremony! Richard's vows made people tear up :') Cocktail hour was a great time to catch up with high school friends and also pig out on the delicious mashed potato martinis (good choice Joyce!) Then came our grand entrance to the reception, a cute slideshow, and photobooth time! We ended the night with an after-party at the married couple's suite.

Today I checked out Lake Avenue Church. It was nice but I don't think it's the right church for me. Grabbed lunch at Lemonade afterwards with Nancy and Adalon and then I dropped Nancy off at the airport. I'll miss you bepu! It was a tiring but rewarding weekend. Congratulations again to my beloved friend Joyce! ♥

Stuck in the Middle with You

Above is a video I recorded at For the Record: Tarantino. I love how much fun Ben Goldberg is having in his role as Mr. Blonde in this scene from Reservoir Dogs! But before I get into this, let me backtrack and tell you about my past week.

I had to go back to work last Wednesday, and boy, was it painful! I was like a zombie the entire day... I couldn't get my brain to go back to work mode and function. But then again, my entire team was the same way. For dinner, I met up with Kelly K (who I haven't seen since college!) at Sushi Eyaki. It was really nice hanging out with her and catching up. Thursday and Friday that week were spent trying to get back into my regular work routine... but I still miss my vacation days. They flew by too quickly...

On Saturday, I ran errands and had lunch at Costco with my mum. Their food is so cheap yet good! And I got to hang out with Nancy for a bit, which is always nice. And then at night... another viewing of For the Record: Tarantino with Jinwon. I cannot get enough of this show! I've been listening to the soundtrack constantly in the car and it is SO good. Our cast yesterday was Tomasina Abate (love her), Rogelio Douglas Jr. (amazing), Dionne Gipson (breathtaking), Ben Goldberg (my love ♥), Ruby Lewis, Steve Mazurek (hottie), Jason Paige, Danielle Mone Truitt, and VON SMITH (my ultimate love ♥). It was a NEAR PERFECT CAST for me and it made me SO SO SO happy!!! It was also Jason Paige's birthday so that was pretty cool. Such a great performance. The above video is the only one I took that came out decent--the rest were too blurry. While I am grateful for my new camera, it is almost always blurry! :(

Then on Sunday I checked out HROCK Church in Pasadena for my first church shopping experience. Jinwon was supposed to go with me but she had other plans. It was definitely an interesting experience and I will have to go back with Jinwon sometime to really figure out my opinion of the place. Grabbed In-N-Out for lunch afterwards and gobbled it like the happy piggy I was. Then I spent the rest of the day watching TV in a feeble attempt to catch up on my shows. I feel like Sisyphus when it comes to watching TV; no matter how hard I try to keep up, I just keep on falling behind.

Going to work this week hasn't been any easier, but I do feel like I benefited from working last week. It gave me a few days to reacclimate to working so I feel like it was easier for me compared to those who came back to work today after a full two weeks off. On Monday I went out to lunch with a couple of coworkers to this Thai place called Pa Ord. It was pretty good. And yesterday I went to lunch at the ** Cafeteria with my WOW co-director and she treated me to my favourite: Poquito Mas' shrimp burrito! Yum. Then last night I went to the employee screening of Gangster Squad. Not a great movie and it definitely has many faults, but it showcased Los Angeles beautifully and let me ogle Ryan Gosling so I can't complain.

Today I ran errands with my mum after work and then I bought us McRibs from McDonald's since we've never had them before and I wanted to see what all the hype was about. It's not horrible, but it's not good either, so I don't understand why some people love it so much. But then again, I'm pretty sure no one understands my love for their regular cheeseburgers, so I'll just shut up about it :P Tomorrow is Joyce's rehearsal dinner and then Saturday is her WEDDING so I am very excited for this weekend!!! :D

Happy New Year!

Keri, Gardy, and I wish you all a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

The three of us ended 2012 in style, making delicious Sopapilla Cheesecake. We then walked down memory lane because Gardy brought over an old notebook that we used to write in during high school. It was actually pretty painful to read because our "writing style" back then was so horrible. We then played Taboo (my favourite game!) until around 2-3AM. (Of course we took a time-out for the countdown to 2013!) And then I stayed up chatting with Gardy until about 6AM... I think that's the longest I've stayed up for NYE!

So I'm starting the new year off pretty tired, but I know 2013 is going to be an AWESOME year. (and yes, I know I say that every year, but it's definitely going to be true this year). HWAITING! :D
